Chargers to blast Buccaneers in Week 15 and complete the NFC South sweep

  • Tampa Bay (7-6) is a 3-point road underdog to the Los Angeles Chargers (8-5) in Week 15
  • Justin Herbert has made an NFL record 11 consecutive starts without throwing an interception
  • Sunday’s game kicks off from SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, CA at 4:25 pm ET

The Chargers became the latest team to lose a nail-biter to the Chiefs, falling 19-17 in a defensive slugfest on Sunday. Los Angeles will look to rebound against a Buccaneers club that’s won three in a row to move into the top spot in the NFC South.

Tampa Bay keeps rolling

Baker Mayfield passed for 295 yards, 3 touchdowns and 2 interceptions in a 28-13 victory over the Raiders. Despite throwing multiple picks in back-to-back weeks, Mayfield and the Buccaneers are on a three-game winning streak. Rookie running back Bucky Irving left the game with back tightness, and could be out in Week 15. Rachaad White showed he’s more than capable of carrying the load, however, piling up 109 all-purpose yards and 2 TDs.

After beating the Giants, Panthers and Raiders over their three-game win streak, Tampa Bay will face a big jump in competition this week versus the Chargers before finishing with three more winnable games against Dallas, Carolina and New Orleans.

Bolts get beat

The Chargers bounced back from being shutout in the first half against the Chiefs to put up 14 points in the third quarter. However, Kansas City kicked a game-winning field goal at the buzzer to defeat their division rivals for the second time this season. Jim Harbaugh’s team has now lost two of its last three games, and they didn’t even score an offensive touchdown in a 17-13 win over Atlanta in Week 14.

While their offense has been anemic of late, Jesse Minter’s defense pressured Patrick Mahomes on 38.1% of his dropbacks and sacked him three times.

Los Angeles vs Tampa Bay

Los Angeles is a 3-point home favorite at SoFi Stadium and the over/under is set at 46.5 points. Tampa Bay has the #5 scoring offense in the NFL (27.9 PPG) under first-year offensive coordinator Liam Coen. They’re averaging 6.6 more points per game than the Chargers, but Los Angeles has the superior defense. Jesse Minter’s unit is allowing the fewest points per game (15.9) in the league – 7.9 fewer points than the Buccaneers.

Todd Bowles’ defense is especially bad against through the air, allowing 253.4 passing yards per game – third-worst in the NFL. The Chargers are #8 against the pass, permitting only 206.1 yards per contest.

Best Bet

This fascinating matchup pits the Buccaneers’ explosive offense against Los Angeles’ fierce defense. After already downing the Falcons, Panthers and Saints by a combined 45 points, we like Jim Harbaugh’s Chargers to cover (-3) and complete the sweep of the NFC South, with the OVER 46.5.
