Chiefs to bulldoze Buccaneers on Monday Night Football in Week 9

  • Kansas City (7-0) is a 9.5-point home favorite over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (4-4) in Week 9
  • Travis Kelce scored his first TD of the year on Sunday while recording a season-high in receptions (10) and yards (90)
  • Monday Night Football kicks off from GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, MO at 8:15 pm ET

While it always hasn’t been pretty, Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs are still undefeated heading into Week 8. On Monday night, they’ll face another wide-receiver starved team in Tampa Bay. Coming off two-straight losses and missing both Mike Evans and Chris Godwin, the Buccaneers are in a tough spot against a ferocious Kansas City defense.

Hopkins’ meh debut

DeAndre Hopkins made just two catches for 29 yards in his Kansas City debut. Hogging all of the targets, Travis Kelce made 10 receptions for 90 yards and a touchdown in a 27-20 victory over the Raiders. Patrick Mahomes offered up yet another mediocre stat line (262 passing yards, 2 TDs, INT) but it was more than enough thanks to the Chiefs defense.

Facing a first-and-goal from the 3-yard line in the third quarter, Las Vegas was stuffed four straight times by Steve Spagnuolo’s unit. KC’s defense then forced a Gardner Minshew fumble in the fourth quarter.

Baker tosses 2 picks

Baker Mayfield passed for 330 yards, three TDs and two INTs in his first game without receivers Mike Evans and Chris Godwin. While it was an admirable performance by Mayfield, he threw two devastating picks inside Atlanta’s 10-yard line in the 31-26 loss.

Cade Otton made nine grabs for 81 yards and two scores versus the Falcons. While KC allows the most yards to tight ends in the NFL, it’s difficult to envision the Buccaneers’ one-dimensional offense generating tons of points at Arrowhead on Monday night.

Kansas City vs Tampa Bay

Kansas City is a 9.5-point home favorite on Monday Night Football and the over/under is set at 45-points. Tampa Bay is averaging the fourth-most points per game (29.4) in the NFL, five spots ahead of the Chiefs (24.7 PPG). However, those numbers were largely thanks to Godwin and Evans and in Week 9 they’ll be facing a Chiefs defense that’s limiting opponents to 17.6 PPG – fifth best in the league.

Todd Bowles famously shut down Patrick Mahomes in the Buccaneers’ 31-9 victory in Super Bowl 55, but his defense has been trash in 2024. The Bucs’ D is allowing the fifth-most points (26.6) and the fourth-most passing yards (255.4) per game in the NFL.

Best Bet

While Andy Reid’s club has made a habit of winning tight games over the past few years, KC has defeated their last four opponents by at least 7 points. Returning home following two matchups on the west coast, the Chiefs should spank the injury-riddled Buccaneers on Monday night.
