Two of the NFC’s premier franchises will meet under the lights in Santa Clara on Sunday night. Dallas may be glad to be playing on the road after starting the season 0-3 at home. However, Mike McCarthy’s team has not fared well against the 49ers in recent years. San Francisco blew out the Cowboys 42-10 last October and eliminated them from the postseason in both 2021 and 2022.

Aiyuk out for the year
San Francisco’s injury luck went from bad to worse in Week 7. Having already been without Christian McCaffrey for the entirety of the season, the 49ers lost their top two receivers in a 28-18 defeat to the Chiefs. While Deebo Samuel has a chance to return versus the Cowboys after leaving last week’s game with pneumonia, Brandon Aiyuk is out for the year with a torn ACL and MCL.
Without his weapons, Brock Purdy struggled in the loss to Kansas City, tossing three ugly interceptions. Jordan Mason was also limited to 58 scoreless yards on the ground.

Dallas still beat up on defense
Dallas suffered an embarrassing 47-9 loss to the Lions in Week 6 to fall to 0-3 at home. The good news is they’re 3-0 on the road with wins over the Giants, Steelers and Browns. Star linebacker Micah Parsons also hinted on Instagram that he’ll be making his return from an ankle injury on Sunday.
With the Cowboys defense in disarray, Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb need to reestablish the chemistry they showed last year. After putting up 102.9 yards per game in 2023 with 12 TDs, Lamb is only averaging 77.8 yards this season with two scores in six games.
San Francisco vs Dallas
San Francisco is a 4-point home favorite in Week 8 with the over/under set at 46.5 points. While the 49ers are dealing with a ton of injuries on the offensive side of the ball, this total seems low. Kyle Shanahan has top-ten scoring offense (25.7 PPG) and only Carolina (34.7) is permitting more points per game than the Cowboys (28.0).
Mike Zimmer’s defense has been a disaster, allowing 143.2 rushing yards per game. While the Niners D fares much better against the run, they’re a middle-of-the-pack scoring defense, giving up 22.6 points per game to opponents.
