- Houston (6-2) is a 1-point road favorite over the New York Jets (2-6) in Week 9
- Stefon Diggs exited Sunday’s game with a non-contact knee injury
- Thursday Night Football kicks off from MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, NJ at 8:20 pm ET
Aaron Rodgers is running out of fall guys. Despite the firing of Robert Saleh and the arrival of Davante Adams, the Jets lost their fifth-straight game on Sunday. With the window almost shut on their playoff chances, New York will host Houston on Thursday Night Football. Coming off a 23-20 victory over the divisional-rival Colts, CJ Stroud’s Texans have the AFC South all but wrapped up at mid-season.

Rodgers loses again
Aaron Rodgers passed for 233 yards and 2 touchdowns in Sunday’s 25-22 defeat to New England. But he couldn’t reestablish his connection with Davante Adams, who only made four receptions for 54 yards. While the Jets offense struggled with sloppy play and penalties, the defense couldn’t stop an offense missing its starting quarterback.
With rookie Drake Maye out with a concussion, Jacoby Brissett orchestrated a 14-play game-winning drive to hand New York its fifth-consecutive loss.

Texans top Colts
CJ Stroud passed for 285 yards and a TD in a hard-fought 23-20 win over Indianapolis, and Joe Mixon added a 102 yards and a score on the ground. Houston’s defense was relentless, pressuring Anthony Richardson 24 times with five sacks. With the Texans sweeping the Colts in the season series, they now have a two-game lead in the AFC South.
However, it wasn’t all good news. Stefon Diggs left the contest with a non-contact knee injury. DeMeco Ryans’ club is also still without Nico Collins (hamstring), leaving their wide receiver corps paper thin heading into Week 9.
New York vs Houston
New York is a 1-point home underdog on Thursday night and the over/under is set at 42-points. The Jets have a bottom-ten scoring offense, averaging just 18.8 points per game. Houston’s No. 3-ranked passing defense is only allowing 164.3 yards per game to opponents.
Jeff Ulbrich’s team is even better against the pass, allowing 161.1 yards per game (No. 2 in the NFL). With both clubs limiting opponents through the air, expect to see a lot of Joe Mixon and Breece Hall on Thursday night.

Best Bet
While the Jets’ five-game losing streak looks good on Aaron Rodgers’ smug face, they’ll be the more desperate team in Week 9. Coming off an emotional division win on a short week, the Texans could struggle on offense with Diggs and Collins.
We’ll take New York to cover (+1) and score the upset (-104) at home with the UNDER 42.
