Pittsburgh’s results showed signs of improvement in the lead-up to the break for the 4 Nations Face-Off. A 3-2 overtime win at Utah ended a three-match losing skid at the end of January.

Back-to-back wins over the Panthers (6-3 at home), and the Flyers (4-3 on the road) followed, but the revival was short-lived, as Washington lost their final game before the break against Utah in a shootout.
Carbery’s team is winning enough games to maintain their lead at the top of the Metropolitan Division.
They do look slightly off the pace they were setting earlier in the season, although it would have been near on impossible to keep that form going for the whole of the regular season run-in.
The Capitals are -850 to win the Metropolitan Division. The Carolina Hurricanes are the only other team in the picture at +600.
Washington is the +500 third favorite to win the Eastern Conference and +1000 to win the Stanley Cup.
