Detroit Red Wings betting breakdown

Only two teams in the Eastern Conference have scored more goals during the 2024 NHL season than the Detroit Red Wings. Detroit has 190 goals this year, which puts the club three goals behind the Toronto Maple Leafs and Tampa Bay Lightning. However, the team’s 176 goals allowed gives the Red Wings a less-than-stellar plus-14 goal differential. Only five Eastern Conference clubs have allowed more goals than the Wings. If the club hopes to make the playoffs in 2024, the defense and goaltending needs to improve down the stretch.

Dylan Larkin leads the Red Wings in points (48) and goals (24). Alex DeBrincat, who joined the Red Wings via trade with the Ottawa Senators in July, is second in team scoring with 46 points. Lucas Raymond, who is third on the team with 44 points, is the Detroit leader in assists with 29.

Starting goaltender Ville Husso who was out of the lineup since mid-December with a lower-body injury, returned to action on February 13, but he suffered another injury, and he is now week-to-week. The Red Wings have relied on Alex Lyon in net. The 31-year-old has picked up the bulk of the time in net since late December. He has a 14-8-2 record, a 2.82 goals against average, and a .911 save percentage.

The Red Wings are 10th in the NHL on the power play and connecting at a 23.3 percent clip with the extra man. As for the penalty kill, Detroit is seventh with an 82.4 percent effectiveness. Detroit’s 3.48 goals scored per game is sixth-highest in the NHL, but the team’s 3.26 goals allowed on 32.2 shots per game is the 10th-highest average in the league.

Seattle Kraken betting breakdown

The Seattle Kraken had a lot of scoring depth last season, with 18 different players scoring at least one goal in the playoffs. They have also relied on that approach for this season, as they only had three players who scored more than 60 points last year in Jared McCann, Vince Dunn, and Jordan Eberle. This year, the team has one player on pace to hit the 60-point mark in Oliver Bjorkstrand. Bjorkstrand scored 45 points for Seattle last year in his first season with the team. Bjorkstrand leads the team in points this year with 41, while McCann is tops in goals (22), and Dunn is the team leader in assists (31).

Joey Daccord has picked up the most starts in net for the Kraken. He has a 16-11-9 record to go with a 2.33 goals against average and a .923 save percentage.

The Kraken are 28th in the NHL in goals per game (2.72) on the 21st most shots taken per game (29.9) while allowing the ninth fewest goals per game in the league (2.80) on the 12th-fewest shots allowed per game (29.9). Seattle has the 16th-best power play in the league (21.0 percent), while the team’s penalty kill checks in at No. 21 (78.8).

Best bets for Detroit Red Wings vs. Seattle Kraken

The offense of the Seattle Kraken has not been productive over the past five games. Outside of the team’s 4-1 win over the Boston Bruins on Thursday, the Kraken did not score more than two goals in three of those games, going 2-3. That goal scoring is a concern against a Detroit Red Wings team who has scored four or more goals in three of its past five outings, going 2-2-1 in those outings. Detroit is coming off a 5-0 shutout of the Calgary Flames on Saturday. The betting pick is for the Red Wings to score the upset win over the Seattle Kraken.

With how the Kraken have been playing with the puck as of late, look for a low-scoring game on Monday. The betting pick is that the Red Wings and Kraken will combine for under than six goals.
