The Buffalo Sabres will be looking to snap a seven-match losing streak when they host the New York Rangers on Wednesday. The Sabres haven’t won since late November, and as a result, have plummeted down the Atlantic Division.
Overall this season, Buffalo is 11-13-4. They have 26 points from 28 games played. The Sabres have a goal differential of -7, scoring 85, and conceding 92. Only one team has conceded more in the Atlantic Division.
Buffalo’s home ice record is 6-8-3.
New York has an overall record of 14-12-1. The Rangers sit 4th in the Metropolitan Division on 29 points from 27 matches. They have a goal differential of +5, scoring 86 and giving up 81. A poor sequence of results has seen the Rangers cut adrift from the leading three teams in the division.
On the road, New York has an impressive 7-5-0 record.

Buffalo Sabres
The Sabres could well do with a win here. After they face the Rangers, they have three road trips to look forward to, with five of their next six all away from their KeyBank Center home.
There is little evidence to suggest a win is coming. Okay, they did take the Red Wings to a shootout when they lost 6-5 on Monday, but the Sabres were 5-3 up going into the third period.
It was definitely another case of what could have been for the Lindy Ruff-coached team.
In their last ten, the Sabres are 3-4-3. They do have three wins at the start of that ten-match sequence. And including those three wins, the Sabres were 7-2 before they embarked on their current losing streak.
Over the last ten matches the Sabres have averaged 2.4 goals, 3.5 assists, and 3.9 penalties. They have given up 2.9 goals per game.

New York Rangers
As bad as the Sabres have been, the Rangers have arguably been worse.
New York is 2-8-0 in their last ten, averaging 2.5 goals, 4.6 assists, and 3.8 penalties per game. The Rangers have also conceded a heavy 3.7 goals per game.
In defense of Buffalo, they have only lost four of their last ten without going to overtime. The Rangers have lost eight from ten in regulation time.
At the beginning of the ten-game sequence, the Rangers lost five in succession. They ended that skid with a 4-3 win over the Canadiens. A 5-1 home loss to the Devils followed, but the Rangers immediately bounced back with a 4-2 victory over the Penguins.
With two wins in their last three, things were looking up for under-fire head coach Peter Laviolette and his team. But the respite was short-lived with the Rangers losing 7-5 at home to the Kraken on Sunday.
Another defeat followed in New York’s next and most recent match. The Rangers lost 2-1 at home to the struggling Blackhawks on Sunday – not great preparation for any fixture.
The Rangers are +1200 fourth favorites to win the Metropolitan Division, +750 to win the Eastern Conference, and just +1700 to win the Stanley Cup. The bookmakers clearly still expect to see them come good at some stage later in the season.
