Team USA favored to beat Canada for second time and win 4 Nations Face-Off

By hook or crook, we got the 4 Nations Face-Off final we wanted. The USA will take on Canada in Thursday’s final at TD Garden in Massachusetts. Team USA won the round-robin match, but this is the one that counts and Team Canada will be looking for revenge. We tell you who will win in our ice hockey betting picks.

  • What: 2025 4 Nations Face-Off
  • Who: Team USA vs. Team Canada
  • Where: TD Garden, Boston, Massachusetts
  • When: Thursday, February 20th, 2025
  • Time: 8 p.m ET

The matchup doesn’t need any more hype. But just in case it does, think back to the opening few minutes at the Bell Centre on Saturday. It started with the sections of the Canadian crowd booing the US national anthem, and then when the action got underway there were three fights inside the opening nine seconds.

Team Canada took the lead through the inspirational Connor McDavid less than six minutes into the match, but the US struck back with an equalizer from Jake Guentzel at 10:15 in an enthralling first period.

Dylan Larkin fired in the all-important go-ahead goal in the second period for Mike Sullivan’s team, with Guentzel clinching the match in the third period with his second goal of the night to give Team USA a comprehensive 3-1 win.

Canada won’t take that lying down. And Mike Sullivan and his team can expect a reaction when the two teams rematch on Thursday.

USA

Mike Sullivan’s USA team started the 4 Nations Face-Off with a comprehensive 6-1 win over Finland at the Bell Centre last Thursday.

Brady and Matthew Tkachuk scored two goals each in the win, with Zach Werenski playing a huge role with three assists.

The US followed that up with a win over Canada in their second match. As a result of their two regulation-time wins, Team USA assured themselves of a place in the 4 Nations Face-Off final with a game to spare.

The US team was without the injured Charlie McAvoy, Matthew Tkachuk, and Auston Matthews for their final group match against Sweden. With neither team having anything to play for, the dead rubber ended 2-1 to Sweden.

Canada

Jon Cooper’s team didn’t have a great start to their 4 Nations Face-Off campaign.

Leading Sweden 3-1 in their opening match at the beginning of the third period, the Canadians were pegged back to 3-3 thanks to late goals from Adrian Kempe and Joel Eriksson.

Mitch Marner scored Canada’s winner at 6:06 in overtime. But the damage had arguably already been done with Canada dropping a point by not winning in regulation time.

If Jon Cooper thought that would prompt a backlash against the USA, he was wrong. Team Canada was quickly out of the blocks, both with their fists and on the scoreboard, but it was the USA who came out on top with the 3-1 win.

The Canadians had one last chance to save themselves.

A regulation-time win over Finland in their final group match would see them in the final, no matter what Sweden did in their final fixture later in the day.

Team Canada delivered on this occasion. Goals from Connor McDavid, Nathan MacKinnon (2), Brayden Point, and Sidney Crosby helped Cooper’s men to a 5-3 win and a place in Thursday’s final.

USA vs. Canada Betting Pick

The 3-1 round-robin victory was Team USA’s first win against Canada in a best-on-best international tournament since February 2010 – what Mike Sullivan wouldn’t give for a second within a week.

Injuries look set to have an impact. Team USA is likely to be without Charlie McAvoy, Matthew Tkachuk, and Auston Matthews. And now the second Tkachuk brother, Brady, is also a doubt.

Canada also seemed to finally find their groove in the win over Finland on Monday.

They started the competition slowly. But we think they will finish it fast. Canada to win on the money line is our betting pick.
