- The 2024 Olympic Boxing matches in the 57kg division begin on July 28 and conclude on August 10
- Three former world champions are among the betting favorites in the 57kg division
- American Jahmal Harvey, a 2021 world champion, is among the betting favorites at 57kg
Boxing betting fans should tune in to the 2024 Olympic games because there is no guarantee that the sport will be on the agenda in 2028 in Los Angeles. After more than a century, this might be the last year of Olympic boxing because the IOC stripped the International Boxing Association of the right to run the events.
One of the weight divisions to watch in 2024 is the 57kg weight class. In that division, Abdumalik Khalokov of Uzbekistan, a 2023 world champion at featherweight, Makhmud Sabyrkhan of Kazakhstan, a 2023 world champion at bantamweight, and Jahmal Harvey, a 2021 world champion at featherweight, are among the betting favorites to win gold in Paris.

Abdumalik Khalokov
Hailing from Uzbekistan, Abdumalik Khalokov is a 5-foot-9 orthodox fighter with a long list of accomplishments, including a silver medal at the 2021 World Championships (at lightweight) and a gold at the 2023 World Championships (at featherweight). The 24-year-old is light on his feet with very fast hands, good footwork, and impressive head movement. Khalokov fights with a low guard, but his reflexes, head movement and footwork make him a hard target to connect with. He fights well behind his jab, and his quickness allows him to unload effective combinations when he does move in close. His strong jabs allow him to sneak in fast and powerful hooks and crosses when his foe is not expecting those blows.
Makhmud Sabyrkhan
Fighting out of Kazakhstan, Makhmud Sabyrkhan won the silver medal at bantamweight at the 2021 World Championships and then captured a gold medal in the same weight class at the 2023 World Championships. The 22-year-old fights out of a southpaw stance. Sabyrkhan is a very active boxer. He uses his jab effectively, but whenever he gets the chance, he moves into the pocket and unloads powerful combinations. He doesn’t use a lot of footwork, but he employs exceptional head movement, which makes him hard to hit. While most young boxers tend to headhunt, Sabyrkhan keeps his opponents on their toes by going to the body when that target is open.
While Sabyrkhan is a southpaw, he isn’t afraid to switch up his stances throughout his fights, which makes him a difficult fighter to game plan for.
One thing to worry about Sabyrkhan is his size. He stands 5-foot-5, and most of his experience has come at 54kg. Sabyrkhan can also be countered if his opponent picks up his timing and movement.
Jahmal Harvey
Jahmal Harvey might be the best chance for the U.S. to pick up a gold medal in boxing at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. Harvey is a 5-foot-6 21-year-old out of Oxon Hill, Maryland. He won a gold medal at the 2021 World Championship at featherweight and a gold at the 2023 Pan American Games at 57kg. Harvey’s world title win in 2021 ended a 14-year drought for the U.S. men.
Harvey has tremendous speed and reflexes. He uses feints and movement to draw his opponents in, and when they throw, Harvey counters with incredible speed. The American competitor tends to work from outside the pocket, convincing his foes they have an opening and then blasting them with counters before once again moving out of range. One thing to watch when Harvey competes is that he can sometimes struggle if his opponent can move into range and unload combinations from in close. He is much more comfortable from outside and when he has time and space to counter.
