The 2024 Olympic Badminton events are scheduled from July 27 to August 5 at the Porte de La Chapelle Arena in northern Paris. This week, the BWF revealed the seeds for the Olympic badminton competition, determined by the official BWF World Rankings released on July 9.

Chen Yu Fei, the reigning Olympic gold medalist from China and the No. 2 seed, begins her title defense in Group P. To advance directly to the quarterfinals, she must finish ahead of World No. 46 Mia Blichfeldt of Australia and World No. 37 Yvonne Li of Germany. This should be a straightforward task. Her odds of winning gold at +400.
Tai Tzu-Zhing (+1400)
Tokyo Games silver medalist Tai Tzu-Ying has been placed in Group E, where she will compete against the formidable World No. 12 Ratchanok Intanon from Thailand. Tai’s silver medal at the last Olympics marked the first-ever Olympic silver in badminton for Chinese Taipei. Her odds of going one better this year are +1400 with BetOnline.
Beiwen Zhang (+1600)
American Beiwen Zhang, the No. 9 seed, is placed in Group K. The most experienced member of Team USA’s badminton squad, Zhang made her Olympic debut at the 2020 Tokyo Games, advancing to the Round of 16 before retiring due to injury. She recently secured gold in women’s singles at the 2024 Pan Am Individual Championships. As the sole American woman in the women’s singles event, Zhang will need to finish above Australia’s Tiffany Ho and Thuy Linh Nguyen of Vietnam to advance out of Group K. Zhang is a more speculative bet at odds of +1600 to win gold.
Other Contenders
Carolina Marin of Spain, the Rio 2016 Olympic champion and three-time world champion, brings her fierce determination to Group L, aiming to reclaim her title. She is the third favorite in the betting at odds of +600.
In Group M, India’s Pusarla Venkata Sindhu, also known as PV Sindhu, a double Olympic medalist, seeks to add a gold medal to complete her impressive career. Her odds are +2000.
2024 Olympic Games Badminton
The badminton events at the Paris 2024 Olympics will take place from July 27 to August 5 at the Porte de La Chapelle Arena in northern Paris. A total of 174 athletes representing 48 National Olympic Committees, along with one competitor from the IOC Refugee Olympic Team, have qualified to compete.
The tournament format for both singles and doubles includes a group stage followed by a knockout stage. The knockout phase starts with the round of 16 for singles and the quarterfinals for doubles.
