Fencing has been part of every Summer Games since the dawn of the modern Olympics in Athens over 125 years ago. More than 200 fencers will compete at the 2024 Paris Olympics in three disciplines of modern fencing: foil, épée and sabre. In team fencing, the winner is the first nation to rack up 45 points or the one that has the highest score when time runs out.

Today, we’ll look at the odds for the men’s Sabre team gold medal, as well as the women’s Epee team event. Before examining the board, check out our tips for Betting on the 2024 Paris Olympics and get all of our Olympic Betting Picks.

Koreans favored in men’s sabre

South Korea (+150) is the two-time reigning Olympic champion, winning the title in Rio and Tokyo. Nicknamed the Avengers in their home country, the Korean team of Kim Jung-hwan, Gu Bon-gil, Oh Sang-uk and Kim Jun-ho has captured three-straight gold medal at the 19th Asian Games.  In Tokyo, they defeated Italy by a score of 45-26 in the final.

Other contenders

France (+450) and Italy (+500) are historically dominant forces in the sport of fencing and each country will be sending the maximum quota of athletes (18) to the Games. The French will have the hometown fans on their side with the Grand Palais serving as a tremendous backdrop. Meanwhile, the Italians lead the all-time Olympic fencing medal table, but only registered two silver and three bronze medals in 2021.

Hungary (+300) is expected to be the Koreans stiffest competition. The nation’s star fencer, Aron Szilagyi, has captured an unprecedented three-straight golds in the individual sabre at London, Rio and Tokyo, but he’s only won one World Cup event this season.
