Blues, Hurricanes and Chiefs all vying for 2024 Super Rugby Pacific title

  • Blues (+200), Hurricanes (+200) and Chiefs (+225) are favored to win the professional rugby union club competition
  • Super Rugby Pacific includes teams from Australia, Fiji, New Zealand and the Pacific Islands
  • The Crusaders are +2500 longshots despite winning the past five Super Rugby titles

Following a 32-28 loss to the Queensland Reds, the Crusaders sit 10th on the ladder with a 2-0-8 record. The reigning champions must win their four remaining games to make the playoffs. Even if they do, a sixth-consecutive Super Rugby title doesn’t appear in the cards for the club from Christchurch, New Zealand.

With the 11th round in the books, we’ll look at the latest Super Rugby Pacific futures. You can also check out the top Rugby Betting Sites in 2024 and get all our Rugby Betting picks.

Two favorites emerge

The Blues (+200) and Hurricanes (+200) have matching 9-0-1 records following round 11 of the season. Auckland will be looking to avenge their 29-21 loss to their Wellington-based rivals in week 3 of the season when the two New Zealand clubs meet again this Saturday. Both are coming off dominating efforts, with the Blues spanking the Rebels 38-11 and the Hurricanes whacking the Waratahs 41-12.

Auckland has three Super Rugby championships but none since 2003, while Wellington captured their first and only title in 2016. The Hurricanes’ sole loss this year was a 27-19 defeat to the Brumbies (+900) in late April.

Chiefs and Brumbies close behind

With a 7-3 record on the season, the Chiefs (+225) have only slightly longer odds than the Blues and Hurricanes. They fell 36-23 to the Hurricanes in April, but have yet to play the Blues. They dismantled the Brumbies 46-12 back in March.

The Brumbies (+900) were also walloped 46-7 by the Blues a few weeks back. Those two defeats are why the club from Canberra, Australia is listed at +900 despite sitting in third place with a 8-0-2 record.

Defending champs go down

The Crusaders (+2500) reignited their playoff hopes with a 39-0 victory over the fourth-placed Melbourne Rebels in round 10. However, the defending champions fell 33-28 to the Queensland Reds (+2500) on Saturday. With a miserable 2-0-8 record, the Christchurch club would need to win out to have any chance at making the postseason.

Best Longshot

While the Reds (+2500) only have a mediocre 5-0-5 record, they’ve played the top teams tough this year. That includes a 25-19 victory over the Chiefs, a seven-point loss to the Blues in round 10, and a five-point defeat to the Hurricanes in round 2.

If you’re looking for a longshot with legs, take Queensland to win their first Super League title since 2011.
