The Leicester Tigers have the most titles with 11, but Saracens is the defending champions, winning for the sixth time in 2022-23. That’s likely a big reason they’re the favorite, despite being two points off the top.
Saracens (+120)
Saracens are one of the most successful teams in England and have been in respectable form thus far. They’re 5-0-3 and have a +40-point difference. The team has scored an average of 27.6 points per game, compiling 32 tries and 20 conversions. Saracens did just lose over the weekend to Northampton though by a score of 18-12. There’s a bit of a break in the season until December 22nd when Saracens faced one of their toughest tests yet in Sale, another side who is very much in contention for the Premiership title.
Sale (+325)
Sale might have a -16 point differential but they’re 6-0-2 and have been comfortably beating most of their opponents. The Sharks blew out Newcastle, Bristol, and Gloucester before coming back down to earth over the weekend with a steep defeat to Harlequins by a score of 36-3. However, Sale was in the final last year when they lost to Saracens and definitely have the talent and desire to get back there again. The Sharks are back in action on the 22nd against Saracens, as previously mentioned. There’s cup rugby before then.
Leicester (+600)
Leicester is down in seventh right now with a 4-0-4 record after a slow start. They’ve won three in a row and appear to be finding their stride at the best time. The Tigers just annihilated Newcastle 47-3 on Sunday after scoring 38 the week before that. Leicester is no pushover, having won the title in 2021-22 when they beat Saracens in the showpiece. With lots of time left in the campaign, the Tigers could absolutely move themselves up the table if they keep it rolling. Don’t sleep on Leicester.
Harlequins (+650)
Another past champion. Harlequins won it all in 2020-21 when they beat Exeter in a 40-38 thriller. They’re 5-0-3 so far and have a point differential of +43. Harlequins have only won two titles in their history and have never finished as a runner-up. They just absolutely hammered Sale last Friday and showed that another title could be in the cards. Harlequins is a strong squad overall that should not be taken lightly by anyone. The win over Sale made a statement.
Bath (+1000)
Bath is in second with a 5-0-3 record for 27 total points. This is a club with a track record of success, but all six of their titles came in the late 1980s/early 1990s. They’ve finished at the top of the table seven times. Bath hasn’t been a runner-up since 2014-15, though. It’s a long time coming. They smashed Exeter 41-24 on matchday eight and have a couple of cup games before getting back into league play.
Exeter (+1400)
Exeter’s two trophies came in 2016-17 and 2019-20. The Chiefs were most recently a runner-up in 2020-21. Exeter is down in sixth in the table but only four points off first place. Things are completely wide open still at this point in the campaign. Anything is possible for them, but three losses in their last four outings aren’t exactly anything to write home about.
Premiership Rugby Futures Picks
With the table so close, it’s very hard to make a definitive pick right now. That being said, I like Leicester, the most successful club in the top flight. Their form is phenomenal and the best could be yet to come. At +600, it’s worth a bet at this point.
