America & Chivas Derby History
In Mexico, Club America and Guadalajara, also referred to as “Chivas,” have a protracted rivalry. With almost any other opposition in Mexico, the two clubs engaged in competition that lasted for several decades, beginning in the 1940s. It wasn’t until the 1980s that Mexican soccer began to resemble parity and the dominance of America and Chivas slowed down. La Bronca del ’83, a brawl between the two clubs that started during the second leg of the league semifinals, occurred during that decade.
Chivas is well known for developing talent only from Mexico rather than bringing in any foreign players. Although this policy was not in place at first, it is now the practice and has been successful in producing a large number of international players, including Javier Hernandez and Carlos Vela.
Both teams have never been demoted from Mexico’s top division, though Guadalajara came very close during their “Dark Era.” Chivas came dangerously close to being demoted in 1970–71 and 1981–82, but they were able to avoid it. This derby is unique in that it is featured in both the Copa Libertadores (South America) and the CONCACAF Champions Cup (North America), two separate continental championships.
Club America Liga MX Struggles
By Club America’s standards, this summer has not been good. Usually known for their victorious performances in almost every competition they enter, Club America unexpectedly lost the Leagues Cup in the quarterfinals last month. Their two consecutive losses since returning to domestic competition have raised serious concerns in Mexico City. One may argue that their 4-1 away loss to Cruz Azul, one of Liga MX’s best clubs this season, was less concerning than their 1-0 home loss to Puebla.
Club America’s offensive stagnation has been its main hindrance. With the exception of their four-goal let-in against Cruz Azul in their most recent match, Club America had just once in their previous seven games—friendlies excluded—given up multiple goals. America has only managed one goal in their past three games and has shown very little creativity in the latter portion of the game. Their motivation might increase in a rivalry game, but it could also increase their nerves at the end.

Their motivation might increase in a rivalry game, but it could also increase their finishing jitters.
They had been playing well in Mexico, but they did not have the same success in the Leagues Cup. They only had two points after two penalty shootouts, which was insufficient to get them out of their group. For a squad that achieved results in both games, this is a regrettable finish, but one would have thought more of a team playing the San Jose Earthquakes in home field. That does, however, indicate that Chivas has won all six of their previous games in all competitions.
America & Chivas Betting Prediction
The home team has the advantage in this game, in my opinion. Even though I would prefer to wager on Club America’s over 1.5 team total rather than the moneyline, I am hesitant for a few reasons. First off, it’s evident that Club America has had offensive difficulties lately. This is important to consider, even if metrics hint otherwise. Additionally, there has only been one goal scored in the previous three encounters between these two teams, all of which occurred in 2024.
A contentious, cagey battle between two rivals is very likely in the cards this weekend. I will thus keep to a straightforward, straight moneyline wager on Club America To recover and get back on track. In fact, a tiny wager on Correct Score: 1-0 would be wise if their May meeting at Estadio Azteca ends with the same score.
Chivas has only prevailed once in their previous seven encounters. That includes America’s victories, both at home and away, in the previous year, by scores of 3-0 and 4-0. I like the value on America to win at (-108), but only for a half unit because of my projected America line of (-141).
