After Senate approval in May and subsequent House amendments, the bill is signed into law on June 14, 2023.
2022
Vermont embraced mobile sports betting, authorized by Governor Phil Scott in June. In December, the state selected DraftKings, FanDuel, and Fanatics to operate its sportsbooks.
2021
Senators Sears, Sirotikin, Pearson, and Westman all co-sponsored S77. It would allow sports betting through the VT lottery. It did not pass.
2020
Two bills were introduced in the Senate that would have legalized sports betting in the state. However, neither of them was approved. S 213 was filed by Senators Dick Spears and Sirotkin would only have legalized mobile sports betitng.
2019
Representative Thomas Burditt introduced H 484, which would have legalized sports betting in the state. The Board of Liquor and Lottery would have been in charge of regulating the new industry. After its first reading in the House, it was left untouched.
2018
The Supreme Court strikes down key provisions in the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act. This decision allowed any state to legalize and regulate local sportsbooks without violating federal law.
