Washington State Hoping for Expanded Sports Betting to Arrive

For a while now, we’ve seen lawmakers try to make Washington state sports betting changes. As things stand, all legal betting is only allowed on tribal lands. Online betting is allowed, but again, it can only be done on tribal territory. The fact of the matter is that people technically aren’t allowed to place bets from anywhere on the go. Having said that, Washington state is hoping for expanded sports betting to arrive. Will that happen by the end of this year?

According to a report, multiple lawsuits have once again been brought up in Washington to allow for legal betting to be an option for people in multiple different locations outside of tribal lands. This is something the local tribes have been fighting, as they want to make sure that they have full control of the betting operations. However, this is something that hasn’t sat well with a ton of people, especially the owners of Maverick Gaming LLC. The casino operators are pushing for change.

“I know that our perspective on sports betting is at odds with those who prefer a monopoly for Tribal casinos, but I respect their right to advocate for their members,” CEO Eric Persson said via a recent press release. “Maverick Gaming will one day offer sports betting at its properties in our state, either following a ruling by the United States Supreme Court or an inclusive policy discussion by the state legislature that is founded in facts.”

As you can see from that quote from Persson, he is quite passionate about getting things done. He would absolutely love it if people could visit one of his casinos, check the best-rated sportsbooks, including the reliable Bovada review, and bet on the action that people are watching on a big-screen TV. Only time will tell if Persson gets his wish or not, but this is clearly something to monitor for the state moving forward.

A slow start for the Mariners is impacting MLB betting for Washington

In a bit of a negative for lawmakers, a slow start for the Mariners is impacting MLB betting for Washington. After a slow offseason, there was concern from the Seattle fanbase that perhaps another long season could be on the way for the M’s. While we are less than 10 games into the new campaign, the Mariners offense has looked rough and the team is a lowly 4-6 on the season. This is not what anyone was hoping to see.

The starting pitching has been decent for the Mariners, but the fact that the bats have gone cold is not good news for this team. The Rangers and Astros are the two teams expected to push for the AL West title, but with so much young talent on the roster, Seattle supporters were hoping this would be the year where things could get done in winning a title. Scott Servais and his coaching staff certainly have a lot of work to do to come close to getting that job done.

”It takes 40 games to kind of situate your team, your bullpen,” Servais said before Opening Day got here. “That will never change in my thinking. But in the past, in April, it may be a younger player and here comes a matchup that is really hard for this younger player. What I’m trying to do is instill confidence in this guy. I’m going to let him have this at-bat or I’m going to let (a pitcher) face this particular hitter, even though it may not be the best thing for the team in that moment.”

Per the oddsmakers, the Mariners have already seen a dip in their MLB betting odds to make the playoffs. This is bad news across the board for Servais, as Seattle didn’t make the postseason in 2023. Keep in mind that they did in 2022, but that came after more than 30 years of missing out. The pressure is on for Servais to help this team get better. From a betting standpoint, the more the Mariners lose, the worse it will be for the betting revenue and handle moving forward.

NFL Draft betting for Washington state will be fun to follow

While we wait to see if things will be expanded sooner rather than later, there’s no question that NFL Draft betting for Washington state will be fun to follow. Right now, the Seattle Seahawks have a mid-first-round pick and the expectation is that they’re going to look to address the offensive line. If that’s the case, it will be great news for start quarterback Geno Smith, who needs extra protection up front.

There are plenty of intriguing names for the Seahawks to target, but from our chair, we think either Alabama’s JC Lathan or Duke’s Graham Barton would make the most sense. It really comes down to whether they’ll be on the board or not. It will be interesting to see how the first round shapes out, but regardless, a stud should be on the way to Seattle on April 25. With that said, the bets on who Seattle might take will continue to pour in leading up to draft night.
